Immigration has been an essential driving factor in front-loading Canada’s economy with continual growth, addressing labour shortages, and acting as a strong adhesive in community development. Since there has been an emergence of applications for permanent residency, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has taken steps to improve operations to expedite processing.
The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, announced that IRCC had exceeded its goal of 147,000 final decisions on permanent residents during the first quarter of 2022. This year, Canada has invited over 108,000 new permanent residents solely through these efforts.
Canada has surpassed its citizenship projections for 2021–2022, with over 210,000 new Canadian citizens due to modernization and an increase in the pace of services for applicants who applied for Canadian citizenship. It includes online exams, virtual citizenship ceremonies, and an online application tracker that allows users to receive file updates. IRCC’s continued commitment to improving client service has made these new developments possible.
IRCC has made over half a million judgments and welcomed over 405,000 new permanent residents in 2021 alone, the most significant number ever recorded in Canada’s history. There has been a continuing attempt to reduce application inventories that have grown because of the pandemic, with extra funding of $85 million from the 2021 Economic and Fiscal Update.
This investment will hire more processing staff, digitize applications, and reallocate labour throughout our global operations. These revisions will provide clients with practical and up-to-date information and display the number of applications currently being handled and the current operational reality.
